Pouring The Bronze
My blast furnace is simple affair. The crucible is surround with soft and
hard fire bricks, The crucible sit on a burner from a turkey cooker.
Propane is piped to the burner via a black pipe. The lid to the furnace is
laying on some fire bricks to the right of the furnace.
The bronze is melted in a crucible to 1800 - 2000 degrees
Fahrenheit. I use a special pair of thongs to handle the
crucible. This thong allows for a firm hold on the crucible
without applying excess pressure.
The molted bronze is poured into the plaster mold. Note
the lid to the blast furnace and the excess mold
container to the right of the plaster mold. I pour any
excess bronze into the excess mold containers.
